"Gardens can grow so much more than plants. A Community Garden grows the Community."
- Janie Johnson, CEO of United Way MSJC

The United Way of Mid & South Jefferson County is excited to share our newest Initiative, The West Port Arthur Community Garden. This is Initiative is in partnership with the Garden's Board of Directors. We are just getting started and can't wait to share the plans for our collective impact in education and fighting food insecurities through the work at the Garden, together!

Thank you to Valero Energy & Valero Port Arthur employees for support of the garden and making the fight against food insecurities a priority.

The Garden began with the idea of providing an environment for local residents of West Port Arthur to work, nourish, and harvest food for their tables from adopted Garden Raised Beds. There are 25 adopted beds that residents and organizations are utilizing for that purpose. Those beds are managed by the West Port Arthur Community Garden Board.

The United Way has 10 designated that will be utilized to support families throughout programs serving West Port Arthur residents addressing food insecurity.

The final avenue of distribution is community focused with distribution a time announced for senior citizens and families during the weeks of harvest from the United Way designated garden plots.
