Addressing unemployment, under employment, & poverty

 

Using the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained and Employed) to identify those that are living on survival or poverty budgets we then build a full profile including work history, interest, resume' and application letter. Once the application packet is complete the candidate is reviewed and considered for entry to the program. United We Work is a partnership between the participant and the United Way that, if utilized, can help create a higher level of financial stability.

United We WORK offers individual assistance to expand knowledge base, career development, personal development, individual assistance, and access to programs that include but are not limited to First Impressions and Asset Building Case Management.

Workforce Clothing Closet

A United We Work Initiative

United Way MSJC’s Workforce Clothing Closet, formerly known as First Impressions, supports job seekers and newly employed individuals by providing work-ready clothing for a range of industries. As part of our United We Work initiative, this program removes wardrobe-related barriers to employment—ensuring every client has what they need to start strong and stay safe on the job.

Equipping Our Workforce for Real-World Jobs

Whether you're stepping into a refinery, chemical plant, construction site, restaurant, or office, we’re here to help you dress for the job.

We offer job-specific clothing such as:

  • Steel-toe boots

  • Flame-Resistant (FRC) clothing

  • Non-slip work shoes

  • Durable jeans and work pants

  • Professional office attire

Each client receives clothing tailored to their industry and individual needs, supporting their ability to show up ready, confident, and appropriately dressed.

Who We Serve

  • Individuals starting new roles who may not have access to job-specific attire

  • Those preparing for internships or technical training

  • Community members referred by partner agencies or workforce development programs
